Native to: Eastern Mexico
Type: evergreen perennial

Adaptive Features:

  • Expanded base allows for water storage, suitable for sandy soil.

Interesting facts:

  • Not a true palm. Named ponytail palm for it’s strap-like leaves that droop down from the top of the plant.
  • Produces clusters of flowers (see picture). These flowers can become very large, although are rarely seen in captivity.
